The Smart Grid CARMEN project received funding of EUR 104 million.
Of the total value of the project of around EUR 207 million, the European funding is approximately EUR 104 million, provided by the European Commission's ' Connecting Europe Facility' programme for Projects of Common Interest, with the difference being provided by the three partners from their own funds. Of the total project value, the component that goes to Delgaz Grid is EUR 77.5 million, of which almost EUR 39 million is European non-refundable funds. The component that goes to Transelectrica is EUR 70.7 million, of which almost EUR 35.4 million is European non-refundable funds, and the component that goes to ESO is EUR 59.3 million, of which EUR 29.6 million is dedicated funds.

The event was attended by Dan Jannik Jørgensen, European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Smart Grids, together with representatives of the partner companies in Romania and Bulgaria: Volker Raffel, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Delgaz Grid, Daniela Mocanu, Director of European Affairs Transelectrica, and Kiril Georgiev, CEO of ESO Bulgaria. ⁇ CARMEN is the first Smart Grids Joint Interest Project to receive financing for the development and modernization of transport and distribution networks in Romania. We have taken a very important step in disrupting this strategic project for both our companies and the energy systems in the two countries.
Through close cooperation between transport and distribution operators in Romania and Bulgaria, we are contributing together to the strengthening of a more flexible, resilient and better interconnected network to meet the challenges of the energy transition.
